Regional and Special-interest Clubs

Bicycling membership organizations typically offer group rides, socializing and community events. Some hold classes, maintain trails, negotiate discounts with bike shops or serve as advocates to governmental entities.

Backcountry Bicycle Trails Club, Seattle. Statewide advocacy of back country trails. www.bbtc.org

B.I.K.E.S Club, Everett. Sponsor of the McClinchy Mile ride. www.bikesclub.org

Boeing Employees’ Bicycle Club, Seattle. You need to be associated with Boeing to be a member, but not to participate in their rides. www.bebc-seattle.org

Capital Bicycling Club, Olympia. http://capitalbicycleclub.org

Cascade Bicycle Club, Seattle. The area’s largest club. Sponsor of the Chilly Hilly, Seattle to Portland (STP), the February Bike Expo and many other events. http://www.cascade.org

Different Spokes, Seattle. A cycling club for the GLBT community. www.differentspokes.org

Evergreen Tandem Club, Seattle. Promoting the joy of riding tandem in the Puget Sound area. www.evergreentandemclub.org

Seattle Bicycle Club, Seattle. Sponsors social rides and a series of short tours around Washington state each summer. www.seattlebicycle.org

Seattle Bike Tours, Seattle. An informal group of recreational cyclists promoting rides and fun for its members. www.seattlebiketours.org

Seattle International Randonneurs. A club focused on randonneuring, which is long-distance, unsupported, non-competitive cycling. www.seattlerandonneur.org

Skagit Bicycle Club, Mount Vernon. www.skagitbicycleclub.org

squeaky wheels, Bainbridge Island. A “bicycling support group” that promotes safe biking on Bainbridge Island. www.squeakywheels.org

Tacoma Wheelmen’s Bicycle Club, Tacoma. Sponsors the Daffodil Classic ride. www.twbc.org

West Sound Cycling Club, Silverdale. Sponsors the Tour de Kitsap ride. www.westsoundcycling.com

Advocacy Organizations

You can support safety, education and expansion of bicycle routes or transit amenities for cyclists by joining a group that advocates for the cause.

Bicycle Alliance of Washington, Seattle. Among its many safety-related activities, BAW operates the Safe Routes to School program. Its offices are co-located with Bikestation Seattle in the city’s Pioneer Square district. www.bicyclealliance.org

Bike Works, Seattle. A Rainier Valley bike shop that recycles bikes for youth in its Earn-a-Bike program. www.bikeworks.org

Foothills Rails-to-Trails Coalition. Assists in the creation and maintenance of a connected system of non-motorized trails from Mount Rainier to Puget Sound. www.piercecountytrails.org

Friends of the Burke-Gilman Trail, Seattle. This group supports the completion and maintenance of the granddaddy of Seattle’s rail-trails. www.burkegilmantrail.org
