Bainbridge in August? Let's Ride to the Beach!
August means "escape the city" in some obscure language (I'm certain of it), which is why I said yes to an offer from Eagle Harbor Book Co. to bring my Biking Puget Sound presentation to their store. Have slide show, will travel!
ince I'm heading over there anyway, I thought I should take a little ride. So here's the summer contest (and it's an easy one, since the heat makes us so lazy): The first 10 people who send me a confirmation e-mail will get a guided tour by me to Fay Bainbridge State Park prior to the presentation. It's a 15-mile ride along the rolling hills of the island's northeast shore. I'll even provide a mid-ride snack at the park. We'll take a 3 p.m. ferry, and have plenty of time to have a leisurely visit to the beach. On the way, we'll check out the incredible historic bike displays at Classic Cycle in downtown Winslow. RSVP to me now.
Community Gardens by Bike, part 1
As a P-Patch gardener, I have a habit of dropping into other gardens, to check out each garden's unique features and amenities. As a garden writer, I like to see what people are growing, and how they're doing it. So naturally I do these trips on my bike. Check out my article for the P-Patch Post on gardens that are close to the Burke-Gilman Trail. Read on...
Community Gardens by Bike, part 2
Want to give it a try? Join me next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for a tour of a few P-Patches in northwest Seattle. To monitor group size, I'd appreciate an RSVP to bill@bikingpugetsound.com if you'd like to join the ride. I'll send you a link to the details. Bike helmets required.
BPS on KUOW's "The Beat"
I joined Dave Beck on The Beat recently for a nine-minute segment about the joys of cycling away the summer. You can listen to our discussion by visiting KUOW's archives and streaming the show. I recommend listening to the entire show, but you can fast-forward to the 14-minute mark and just hear my segment. If you keep listening after my bit, you'll hear another cycling interview, with a contributor to the "Cycling's Greatest Misadventures" book. It's an entertaining show, and I thank KUOW for having me on. Listen now.
