$8.4 Million in Additional Federal Transit Funding Coming to the Region Ahead of the World Cup

U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $8.4 million in federal funds for Seattle will be available to support the region’s transportation needs as it hosts the FIFA World Cup this summer. Lumen Field in Seattle will host six matches between June 15 and July 6, 2026.

“Puget Sound Regional Council is thrilled to learn that we will receive $8.4 million in federal funds to address our region’s transportation needs as we prepare to host the FIFA World Cup. We are deeply grateful to Senator Murray and our congressional delegation for securing these important resources that will help soccer fans from around the globe get around our region. PSRC will work quickly to make sure the funds get distributed efficiently,” said Josh Brown, PSRC’s Executive Director.

Overall, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is investing $100.3 million nationwide into public transit systems within host cities preparing to welcome millions of fans during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The funding will ensure communities can expand transit options to meet increased demand in services around stadiums.

PSRC will learn about the parameters of the new funding on March 11  and will work with eligible transit agencies in the region to develop a plan by June 1 to distribute the funding.
